Bisphosphonates, used in postmenopausal women for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis, have been associated with upper gastrointestinal (GI) side effects including inflammation, ulceration, and bleeding. These U.S. and Canadian researchers conducted a 2-week clinical trial, supported by the manufacturer of risedronate, to compare the upper GI effects of alendronate and risendronate in 448 healthy postmenopausal women.
