Sperm reaches the site of fertilization in the fallopian tube within 5 minutes after deposition in the vagina: The common myth that lying quietly after sexual intercourse can increase fertility has been called into question by this fact of physiology. These investigators compared the effect of bed rest after intrauterine insemination (IUI) with immediate mobilization on pregnancy outcome. In 95 couples with unexplained infertility who were undergoing treatment with ovulation induction and IUI, the women were randomized to either immediate mobilization after IUI (40) or 10 minutes of supine bed rest after IUI (55). Each couple was allowed 3 treatment cycles.
