Pregnancy and direct visualization of an oocyte during surgery are definitive evidence of ovulation, but neither is practical for predicting ovulation in infertile women in clinical practice. These investigators compared the reliability of (1) basal-body-temperature (BBT) measurement, (2) urinary-dipstick LH-surge detection, and (3) serum-progesterone measurement in predicting ovulation with that of ultrasound evidence of ovulation in 101 infertile, ovulating women (mean age, 32).
