Many women who take oral contraceptives (OCs) have menstrual-related symptoms associated with the 7-day hormone-free interval (HFI). In a manufacturer-sponsored trial, investigators compared an extended regimen of continuous-use OCs with a standard 21/7 OC regimen for management of mood changes, headache, and pelvic pain among 111 women who had experienced these menstrual-related hormone withdrawal symptoms. The authors also evaluated management of breakthrough bleeding or spotting (BTB/BTS) and patient satisfaction with continuous-use OCs.
