Correct, consistent latex condom use is the most reliable way to prevent sexually transmitted infections (STIs). In a 1-year study, researchers investigated how condom failure is linked to improper use. Men (age range, 18–35) who had used male condoms for penile-vaginal intercourse at least three times during the past 3 months were recruited at an urban STI clinic to complete questionnaires about condom use. Participants rated their own and their partners’ perceived motivation to use condoms. They also reported frequency of erection loss while putting on condoms or during sex and dissatisfaction with condom fit or feel.
