In two previous studies by Holt and colleagues, oral contraceptive (OC) failure occurred most often in women in the highest weight quartile or in those with BMI >27.3 (Journal Watch Women’s Health Aug 7 2002 and Feb 22 2005, respectively). In a retrospective cohort study based on the 2002 National Survey of Family Growth (NSFG), 1300 OC users (age range, 15–44) recalled the history of their OC use, presumed dates of conception if pregnancy occurred, and height and weight at conception from 1999 to the date of interview.
