Benign proliferative breast disease (BPBD) is a relatively common condition diagnosed on breast biopsy; however, evidence about the role of estrogen therapy (ET) in the development of BPBD has been inconsistent. Using data from the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) trial, investigators evaluated risk for incident BPBD during 6.9 years of follow-up in post-hysterectomy women randomized to conjugated equine estrogen (0.625 mg per day) versus placebo. Participants underwent baseline and annual clinical breast examinations and mammographies.
