The success of any vaccine depends on its acceptability. In a prospective cohort study of human papillomavirus vaccine delivery, the bivalent HPV vaccine (Cervarix) was offered to 2817 12- and 13-year-old schoolgirls in Great Britain. The investigators assessed uptake of the first two doses of the three-dose schedule.
Almost 71% of girls received the first vaccine dose, and 69% received the second dose. Twenty percent of parents did not respond to the invitation to join the vaccine program, and 8% declined the invitation. In 5% of the girls, the interval between the first and second doses deviated from the recommended 4-week spacing; 3% did not receive the second dose.
