Urinary incontinence is prevalent, even in younger women, and can impair quality of life. Physical activity in particular can be affected adversely, causing women to limit their participation in sports. To determine which sports are associated with urinary stress incontinence (USI; leakage of urine with coughing, lifting, or exercise), as well as risk factors for the condition, Italian researchers surveyed 679 premenopausal women (mean age, 36) who participated in noncompetitive recreational sports.
