With few exceptions (e.g., HIV-positive mothers), breast-feeding is superior to formula feeding for infant nutrition. In 2003, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) recommended structured education and behavioral counseling to promote breast-feeding, but did not find sufficient evidence to recommend other interventions. Now, the Task Force has broadened its recommendation for breast-feeding support, based on evidence that interventions during pregnancy and after birth to promote and support breast-feeding increase rates of initiation, duration, and exclusivity of breast-feeding. Recommendation: B (High certainty of moderate net benefit or moderate certainty of moderate to substantial net benefit)
