Amount, type, and frequency of alcohol intake all have varying health effects on women. For example, alcohol consumption has been associated with lower cardiovascular risk (JW Gen Med Sep 13 2002) but higher breast cancer risk (JW Womens Health Mar 26 2009). In the Framingham Osteoporosis Study, conducted from 1996 to 2001, 1182 men and 1537 women completed food-frequency questionnaires and underwent BMD measurements at four hip and spine sites.
