Almost 25% of women are victims of violence during their lifetimes, and women who have physically abusive partners are less likely to negotiate condom use because they fear abandonment or retaliation. Researchers investigated the relation between physical or sexual violence and incidence of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) using a database from Project Protect, a U.S. study of counseling to promote use of dual methods of contraception.
