Preclinical studies indicate that aspirin and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) can inhibit breast cancer metastasis. Investigators used data from the Nurses' Health Study (NHS) to assess whether aspirin use by women who have received breast cancer diagnoses affects survival and risk for distant recurrence. Among 4164 participants with breast cancer who provided information regularly on aspirin use as part of NHS questionnaires, 400 distant recurrences and 341 deaths from breast cancer (all of which occurred in women with recurrences) were reported during the study period.
