Infertile women who undergo in vitro fertilization (IVF) are often emotionally labile. Does emotional distress affect the chances of pregnancy in a single cycle of IVF? Investigators conducted a meta-analysis that included 14 prospective studies and 3583 infertile women who completed a validated questionnaire to measure anxiety or depression before a cycle of IVF with or without intracytoplasmic sperm injection. Those who achieved pregnancies (defined based on positive pregnancy tests, positive fetal heart scans, or live births) were compared with those who did not.
