Cervical cancer is one of many conditions marked by disparities in healthcare delivery, with black and Latina women bearing a greater burden than white women. Investigators modeled prevention and treatment outcomes of five strategies for lowering overall incidence of cervical cancer; two of these strategies also were aimed at curtailing preventive disparities among racial and ethnic groups.
The most cost-effective strategy that had reduction of healthcare disparities among its goals included human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination coverage at 33% (i.e., 33% of eligible women were vaccinated) and targeted screening frequency with the goal of equalizing uptake regardless of race or ethnicity.
