Worldwide, an estimated 2.6 million stillbirths occur each year, and earlier studies have suggested that a prior stillbirth increases risk in a second pregnancy. Knowing more about the effects of prior pregnancy outcomes on subsequent risk for stillbirth could guide counseling and pregnancy management. Data from an Australian population-based cohort of 52,110 women who gave birth at ≥22 weeks' gestation twice between 2002 and 2006 were used to assess stillbirth risk based on outcome of the first pregnancy.
