Although observational data suggest associations between vitamin D deficiency during pregnancy and adverse outcomes, both for women and their offspring, the need for vitamin D during pregnancy remains controversial. Canadian investigators conducted a meta-analysis of 31 studies assessing the effects of maternal serum vitamin D on maternal and neonatal outcomes.
