Investigators compared postdischarge adverse events in children who received either chloral hydrate (70 or 100 mg/kg; maximum, 2 g) or midazolam (1.0 or 1.5 mg/kg; maximum, 20 mg) for outpatient dental treatment sedation at a Brazilian dental sedation center. Adverse events were reported by caregivers the day after sedation. Children were included if they were categorized as American Society of Anesthesiologists class 1 or 2 and were excluded if they had Mallampati scores of 3 or 4, large tonsils, or snoring history.
