Plasmacytomas and POEMS (Polyneuropathy, Organomegaly, Endocrinopathy, Monoclonal protein, and Skin changes) syndrome are rarely encountered in the practice of dermatology, but recognition of the AESOP syndrome described and named by these researchers (Adenopathy and Extensive Skin patch Overlying a Plasmacytoma) may result in earlier treatment and cure of the plasmacytoma. Lipsker and colleagues report findings in 10 patients with AESOP syndrome: 2 whose cases they have previously described, 1 newly recognized patient, 1 patient from the archived records at their institution, and 6 patients whose cases were previously reported by others.
