Working in the electronic health record (EHR) can drive clinician burnout; artificial intelligence (AI)–powered ambient scribes may help (). In a multicenter longitudinal study, researchers examined scribe adoption and EHR time among 8600 ambulatory clinicians. The 20% who adopted AI scribes were compared with nonadopters.
Prior to AI scribe use, the amount of time spent in the EHR per hour of clinical care was ≈1 hour for primary care clinicians (author’s note: Yikes!), ≈50 minutes for medical specialists, and ≈45 minutes for surgical specialists.
