Chlamydia trachomatis is the most common sexually transmitted pathogen in pregnant women, who are most likely to develop serious complications (including vertical transmission to offspring). This double-blind randomized trial in 143 pregnant women compared the efficacy and tolerability of a 7-day regimen of amoxicillin (500 mg three times daily) versus erythromycin (500 mg four times daily) for lower genital tract chlamydia infection.
All women initially had positive cervical cultures. Analysis focused on the 130 women who had follow-up cultures.
