Is Anal Intercourse Associated with Fecal Incontinence?

The impact of anal intercourse on fecal incontinence is poorly understood. In a U.S. population-based survey, 4170 adults aged 20 to 69 years completed questionnaires on sexual behavior and fecal incontinence. The overall rate of anal intercourse was 37% in women and 5% in men. The rate of fecal incontinence was significantly higher among those reporting anal intercourse, in both women (10% vs. 7%) and men (12% vs. 5%).
