Researchers have documented a marijuana withdrawal syndrome marked by depression, anxiety, and irritability; these effects may contribute to continued marijuana use and dependence. The beneficial effects of bupropion for similar symptoms induced by nicotine cessation prompted this placebo-controlled, crossover study on the effects of bupropion on marijuana withdrawal in 10 individuals engaged in regular, heavy (mean, 36 joints per week) marijuana use.
