While laser skin resurfacing for photoaged skin has generated tremendous interest, no study has directly compared this new technique to traditional medium-depth chemical peeling. In this prospective study, 24 subjects with moderate to severe periorbital wrinkling were treated with the SilkTouch CO2 laser on one side, and Jessner's solution with a 35% trichloroacetic acid (TCA) peel on the other. Wrinkles were scored (on a scale of 1 to 5) before and six months after treatment.
The average periorbital wrinkle score decreased from 4 to 1.75 after resurfacing and from 4.13 to 3.29 after chemical peeling. Posttreatment erythema lasted an average of 4.5 months after laser resurfacing and 2.5 months after chemical peeling. Fibrosis with either scl…
