The federal government funds state-administered, breast and cervical cancer screening programs for low-income, medically underserved women. These investigators examined data from the first 5 years of the Oregon program to determine breast cancer outcomes.
A total of 15,730 women (age, ≥40) underwent at least 1 screening mammogram. Standardized American College of Radiology scores were used to classify the mammogram readings: 20,868 were classified as benign or probably benign, 428 as suspicious, and 1853 as inconclusive.
