In 2025, the U.S. CDC removed its recommendation that pregnant and lactating women receive vaccination against Covid-19. ACOG and other medical organizations continue to recommend vaccination against Covid for all women who are pregnant, contemplating pregnancy, or lactating. Now, a study clarifies the effect of vaccination on maternal and perinatal outcomes associated with Covid during pregnancy.
Using Canadian surveillance data, researchers identified 20,000 pregnant individuals (72% vaccinated) who received diagnoses of Covid between April 2021 and December 2022 (a period that included Delta and Omicron variants) and compared outcomes based on vaccination status prior to Covid diagnosis.
