Cryotherapy is a standard treatment for warts on a variety of body sites, including palmar and plantar surfaces. Typically, two freeze-thaw cycles are used because two cycles are thought to be more destructive than one. These researchers from the United Kingdom compared cure rates with single and double freezing in patients with warts on the hands and feet.
Three hundred patients of all ages were enrolled in a randomized, open, parallel-group design. At 3-week intervals for 3 months warts were pared and treated with one or two freeze-thaw cycles of cryotherapy.
