The J-shaped relationship of blood pressure (BP) refers to the possible link between very low BP and greater cardiovascular risk. Some people have postulated that very low diastolic BP (DBP) increases the risk for adverse cognitive outcomes. To understand the relationship between treated DBP and cognitive function, investigators performed a secondary analysis of the SPRINT-MIND trial.
The analysis included 4400 participants (mean age, 67) who achieved a systolic BP <130 mm Hg with treatment. Investigators adjusted for treatment intensity, demographics, other medication use, and other clinical characteristics.
