Blood levels of the androgenic compound dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) and its sulfate ester (DHEA-S) decline with age. Some people have claimed that DHEA supplementation might improve health or well-being and slow down the aging process. These researchers enrolled 39 healthy men, aged 60 to 84, in a double-blind, crossover study: Each subject received three-month courses of DHEA (50 mg twice a day) and placebo, given in random order and followed by a three-month washout period.
