An overview of the Management of peripheral artery disease in adults with diabetes: 2025 ACC scientific statement
Peripheral artery disease (PAD) often goes undiagnosed among patients with diabetes until complications arise. In 2018, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force cited insufficient evidence to recommend PAD screening in asymptomatic adults; in contrast, the 2024 American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association guideline on PAD recommended screening certain high-risk groups. Now, in a scientific statement, the ACC provides additional recommendations for diagnosing and managing PAD in patients with diabetes.
Perform comprehensive foot exams, including palpation for pulses, at least once annually.
