Cerebral glucose utilization decreases in the frontal lobes of patients with major depression disorder (MDD), and state-related impairments of glucose tolerance occur in nondiabetic patients with MDD. Still, little is known about glucose disposal in MDD or whether glucose allocation patterns differ between atypical MDD (involving increased appetite and weight gain) and typical MDD (involving loss of appetite and weight).
