Fish oil, rich in omega-3 fatty acid, is increasingly thought to have a beneficial effect on coronary artery disease, but the data are not conclusive. This study evaluated 194 patients who had just undergone successful angioplasty for symptomatic coronary-artery narrowing. Ninety-five patients were randomly assigned to receive 9 capsules of fish oil a day, and 99 patients served as nonblinded controls. Restenosis was documented by symptoms and treadmill testing; most symptomatic patients also underwent angiography.
