Neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome (NOWS) has been linked to adverse neurodevelopmental and educational outcomes in childhood, but earlier studies have not fully accounted for key socioeconomic factors that might explain these findings. In this retrospective cohort study, researchers attempted to tease out the effect of NOWS on standardized test scores for children in grades 3 through 8, specifically in English/language arts (ELA) and math.
