Drug-induced liver injury (DILI) accounts for 13% of acute liver injury in the U.S., but little is known about its clinical presentation, mechanisms, or outcomes. In 2003, the Drug-Induced Liver Injury Network (DILIN) began recruiting patients from five U.S. academic centers to create a patient registry and biological sample registry for use in studying the etiology and prevention of DILI. Now, investigators are conducting an ongoing, prospective, observational study to determine the causative agents, clinical and laboratory features, and short-term outcomes of the initial 300 patients with DILI.
Patients ≥2 years were recruited if their DILI was suspected of being caused by a medication or herbal agent within 6 months of enrollment. Partici…
