The efficacy of triptan treatment of migraine attacks might depend on the time of intake relative to headache onset. In this prospective, open-label, manufacturer-funded study, investigators aimed to compare the outcomes of early triptan intake (less than one hour after headache onset) and later intake (more than one hour) in patients currently taking triptans as part of their routine treatment by neurologists. Phase I documented whether 193 patients treated their headaches early or late for three consecutive headaches. The 65 patients who treated at least two of their headaches late during phase I were instructed to switch to early treatment for phase II.
