Diane M. Birnbaumer is Associate Residency Director in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, Torrance and Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of California-Los Angeles. A lecturer on emergency medicine topics nationally and internationally, Dr. Birnbaumer recently received both the Outstanding Speaker of the Year Award and the Outstanding Contribution to Education Award from the American College of Emergency Physicians. Her areas of interests are airway management, infectious diseases, and emergencies in the elderly patient. She wrote for NEJM Journal Watch Emergency Medicine from the publication's launch in 1997 until 2014.
