Thomas R. Swift is Professor and former Chair of the Department of Neurology at the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta. His primary interest is in clinical neurology with expertise in clinical neurophysiology and neuromuscular disease. He is President of the American Academy of Neurology and has been President of the American Association of Electrodiagnostic Medicine, President of the Society of Clinical Neurologists, and Chair of the Medical Advisory Board of the Myasthenia Gravis Association. An article he coauthored in 1970, "Treatment of Parkinson's Disease with L-Dopa," reporting the first effective treatment for PD, is one of the most frequently cited medical articles of all time. Dr. Swift was a member of the NEJM Journal Watch Neurology board from the publication's launch in 1999 until 2015.
