Craig A. Elmets is Chairman of the Department of Dermatology and Director of the Skin Diseases Research Center at the University of Alabama School of Medicine, Birmingham. He has served on the editorial boards of a number of medical journals and as a member of government committees for the National Institutes of Health and for the Department of Veterans Affairs. Dr. Elmets is a member of the Board of Directors of The Photomedicine Society and serves on many committees of the American Academy of Dermatology. His major interests are in immunodermatology, phototherapy, and photosensitivity diseases. His research focuses on environmental influences on the skin and immune system and the chemoprevention of skin cancer. Dr. Elmets wrote for NEJM Journal Watch Dermatology from 2006 until the publication’s closure in 2016.
