Dr. Kuerer, MD, PhD, FACS, plays a leading role in the MD Anderson Cancer Center’s world-renowned breast care group as a recognized cancer surgeon and researcher who specializes in the multidisciplinary care of patients with breast cancer. Recruited back to MD Anderson to help establish a premier program to train breast cancer surgeons of the future, he is now the Robinson Endowed Distinguished Professor of Surgery and Cancer Research, and the Executive Director of the MD Anderson Cancer Network Breast Programs. He maintains a busy clinical research program. He serves as a member of the NRG Breast Committee, is on the editorial board of several clinical journals, and is leader of the American Society of Breast Surgeons. Dr. Kuerer is heavily involved with the MD Anderson Cancer Network clinical expansion in terms of comprehensive assessment, benchmarking, and review of potential new partners and ongoing member hospital and programmatic relationships nationally and internationally. Dr. Kuerer is a regularly invited speaker at academic, national, and international meetings and has authored or coauthored more than 500 peer-reviewed scientific reports, editorials/commentaries, and text chapters. Dr. Kuerer is Editor-in-Chief of the definitive McGraw-Hill textbook, Breast Surgical Oncology. Originally from New Jersey, he attended Rutgers College and received his MD and PhD in Molecular Immunology at the State University of New York Health Science Center in Brooklyn, trained in general surgery at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, and completed his fellowship training at MD Anderson.
