George Sakoulas, M.D., is an active infectious diseases clinician at Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego, CA, and holds a research appointment as Adjunct Professor of Pediatrics at the University of California San Diego School of Medicine, Division of Host-Microbe Systems and Therapeutics. He is chair of infectious disease at Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Group and Director of Transplant Infectious Disease for Sharp Healthcare. He earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School and completed his postgraduate training in internal medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA, in 1998. From 1998 to 1999, he served as chief medical resident in the Department of Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. From 1999 to 2002, he was a fellow in infectious diseases at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center where he developed interests in gram-positive infections. His current interests are developing novel strategies for the treatment of difficult bacterial infections in health care and community settings.
