Dr. Wagle Shukla is a neurologist and a physician scientist at the University of Florida, Gainesville, providing high-quality care to patients with Parkinson’s disease, dystonia, tremors, chorea, and other movement disorders. She is the division director of clinical trials and the research chief at the University of Florida Health Center for Movement Disorders and Neurorestoration. Her research has been awarded many grants through the Dystonia Coalition, Dystonia Medical Research Foundation, American Brain Foundation, Brain and Spinal Cord Injury Research Trust Fund, Blepharospasm Research Foundation, National Organization for Rare Disorders, and the NIH. She is committed to researching movement disorders, working to elucidate the mechanisms underlying movement disorders and develop novel therapeutic approaches. She has conducted multiple studies on the novel applications of oral pharmacological therapies, botulinum toxin injections, transcranial magnetic stimulation, and deep brain stimulation surgery. She has more than 170 publications in peer-reviewed journals, including Brain, Neurology, Journal of Neurology and Neurosurgery, and Movement Disorders. She has been invited to present her research findings at many national and international conferences. She is the clinical director for Tyler’s Hope Foundation for Dystonia and the Vice President for the Tremor Research Group. She is frequently invited to be an NIH study section reviewer and is an associate editor for the journals npj Parkinson’s Disease and Drugs in Context. She is a member of the Science Committee for the American Academy of Neurology and has been elected as the Treasurer Elect of the Movement Disorders Society Pan American Section.
