Dr. Autumn Klein obtained her MD and PhD (Anatomy and Physiology with a concentration in Neuroscience) at Boston University School of Medicine. She served as chief resident in neurology at Brigham and Women's and Massachusetts General Hospital, then stayed on at Brigham and Women's Hospital, where, in 2003, she established a clinic for pregnant women with neurological illnesses. In 2011, Dr. Klein moved to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center where she holds a joint appointment in neurology and obstetrics and gynecology and is Chief of Women's Neurology at Presbyterian Hospital and Magee Women's Hospital. Dr. Klein's recent research focused on obstetric outcomes in women with neurological disease (including epilepsy and headache), stroke during pregnancy, and the effects of hormones on headache. Dr. Klein was a contributing author for NEJM Journal Watch Neurology from 2004 to 2009 and wrote for NEJM Journal Watch Women's Health as a Contributing Editor from 2010 until her death in 2013.
