Various types of intermittent fasting have gained popularity as approaches to weight loss and cardiovascular risk reduction, but their effects remain unclear. In a network meta-analysis, researchers pooled data from 99 randomized, controlled trials (6600 patients, most with overweight or obesity and other metabolic comorbidities) to compare effects of various intermittent fasting programs, more-traditional continuous energy–restriction diets, and unrestricted diets.
