Dermabrasion has been the mainstay of therapy for acne scars for more than 40 years. Results are usually assessed by "before" and "after" photographs, which can be unreliable because of differences in lighting, film, exposure, angle of shot, makeup, and developing. This study used several different approaches to assess the outcome of dermabrasion in 25 patients with acne scarring who were followed for one year.
Diamond fraise dermabrasion was performed down to a level where bleeding started, with the depth dependent on the depth of the individual scars.
