Post-thrombotic syndrome after acute lower-extremity deep venous thrombosis (DVT) is characterized by persistent symptoms and signs of chronic venous insufficiency such as pain, pruritus, edema, and ulceration. This syndrome is especially common and severe after proximal DVT, particularly with iliac-vein obstruction.
