The clinical significance of “fullness, prominence, or enlargement” of the pancreas on a contrast-enhanced computed tomography scan is not well established. To assess the importance of such findings, researchers studied 50 patients with indeterminate CT scan abnormalities who underwent endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS); when masses or focal lesions were identified, EUS-guided fine-needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) was performed.
Twenty-one patients (42%) had normal EUS findings, 11 (22%) had chronic pancreatitis, 11 (22%) had suspicious masses, and 7 (14%) had prominent ventral anlage.
