Patients with pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) often have inflammatory bowel disease (IBD; prevalence, 10%–25% in various studies). IBD is also reported in patients with erythema nodosum (EN), although less frequently (<5%); in these patients, the skin disease appears to mirror the activity of the underlying bowel disease. The prevalence and implication of EN and PG in patients with IBD are less well known.
Investigators studied the prevalence and consequences of PG and EN in 2402 patients with IBD at one French center. Of these patients, 5.8% had at least one skin manifestation.
