Falls are a leading cause of accidental injury, and about one third of persons older than 65 fall at least once yearly. Knee buckling — in which the knee suddenly gives way — causes falls, but no study has assessed the prevalence or comorbidities of knee buckling in the general adult population. These researchers used standardized structured questionnaires to assess frequency of buckling, joint pain, and functional limitations in 2351 community dwellers without bilateral total knee replacement or rheumatoid arthritis (age range, 36–94).
