The FDA has cleared the first generic versions of Fosamax (alendronate sodium tablets) for treating osteoporosis, the agency announced on Wednesday.
Teva Pharmaceuticals USA will make alendronate sodium tablets in three dosing strengths (5, 10, and 40 mg) to be taken once daily and two dosing strengths (35 and 70 mg) to be taken once weekly. The FDA also gave its approval for Barr Laboratories to manufacture the 70-mg, once-weekly version.
