Floppy eyelid syndrome (FES) occurs when the upper eyelids are too lax and evert easily, even spontaneously during sleep. The palpebral conjunctiva becomes irritated from continuous friction against external surfaces. Most with FES have obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), and 40% of patients with severe OSA will develop FES. With lubrication, eye protection, surgery in refractory cases, and of course OSA treatment, the patient and their eyes can finally get a good night’s sleep.
